Great way of putting social capital to work
Remember when everybody started playing Mafia Wars and you would get a DM every 5 minutes that a friend completed a new level? Nobody was waiting for this kind of involuntary tweeting by services. This has now been banned by Twitter and rightfully so. But what if you could turn this concept around so that it is not an irritating but welcome meassage? If you ask me, Pay with a Tweet has done just this.
The concept is very easy: I will sell you my product (a song, news article or recipe) if you tweet about it to everyone following you. I don’t want your money but I want to use your social capital. Once you tweet to all your friends that you bought my new single, you can download it for free.
Why would I want to do this? Well, for the price of one download you become part of my viral marketing campaign. And if you like my song, maybe your friends will like it too. This is a great way to get distribution for your product at a price that is almost zero.
